Mold Removal and Cleanup for this Jacksonville Beach Home

Mold events along Jacksonville Beach are frequent as humidity is an ongoing concern. The homeowners for the property depicted in these photos quickly learned how rapidly spreading, and threatening mold events can be. With experienced Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) on our SERVPRO of Jacksonville South roster, we began to identify the cause and effects of mold growth in the residence as quickly as possible. Among the chief concerns for our responding remediators was addressing lingering moisture.

Moisture monitoring and detection equipment are readily available in our inventory of tools and technologies. SERVPRO professionals working initially on this property utilized thermal imagery and hygrometers to detect surface moisture concerns and track the migration of damp pockets in residence. Once we could determine successfully that the moisture concerns were resolved, we could begin initial remediation and mitigation steps. Removing mold is more effective once the work area has been zoned off with containment options and physical barriers.

In the Before Photo of the house, you can see our SERVPRO of Jacksonville South team mid-way through, blocking off the work area from the rest of the house. Once furniture and other contents get evaluated by the mold inspections process, our team relocated these undamaged items into the living room areas of the residence and proceeded to begin taping where our physical plastic barriers must get installed.

Installing the barrier you see in the After Photo helps the property during the remediation process in multiple ways. The first of these is preventing the spread and continued growth of active mold spores. The thick, 6-millimeter poly sheeting installed here is nearly impenetrable through natural migration processes, making it a lightweight barrier to prevent cross-contamination and the spread of harsh effects like foul odors.

In the work zone, machines like our HEPA air scrubbers ran to trap microscopic spores and microorganisms. Combined with multiple types of remediation and mold removal, the reach and the severity of the microbial threats lessened greatly. In this instance, our SERVPRO professionals needed to remove certain exposed materials and drywall once irreparable damage set in. Our technicians prevented additional growth or colonization by applying inhibitors and antimicrobial sprays where demolition was unnecessary.

Exterminating spores and microorganisms from the house solved one of the most prevalent concerns, but effects like a lingering odor still needed addressing. Odor counteractants can reduce the severity of these effects, but actions like thermal fogging neutralize harsh smells on contact and can replace these odors with a pleasant scent instead. With a vaporous approach like fogging, the furniture and fabrics visible in the Before Photo can also receive these neutralizing tactics.
