Jacksonville Residential Fire Damage Walkthrough

Chandler Saint Peter, the Operations Manager at SERVPRO of Jacksonville South, takes us into a Jacksonville home that recently experienced fire loss and explains what his team intends to do to rectify the situation.

Although the video itself cuts off at the end, it is a perfect example of the type of thorough communication you can expect from SERVPRO technicians in the Jacksonville area, should you call us after fire damage occurs on your property.

After a short introduction outside of the home, Chandler explains that there is always water involved in any fire and takes us inside for a first-hand look. We enter the living area as he explains how the event initially started. Apparently, the homeowner had discarded some incense in an outdoor trash can that resulted in severe damage to the home.

Chandler covers how the fire spread, a nightmare for any homeowner. The incense created a fire in the can, quickly making its way up the outside wall, traveling into a closet, and damaging the roof and interior truss system. All of the duct work, electrical, and plumbing in the ceiling was burned as well, eliminating all plumbing and power to the home.

He also explains that the entire area was doused with water during firefighting efforts, leading to water damage on all of the drywall in a home without power. As a result, all drywall, insulation, and flooring require removal within 72-hours to avoid microbial growth. Imagine the walls of your home being saturated by water to the point that technicians must remove every wall, reducing your house to studs, to eliminate water problems correctly.

The smoke and soot from the fire spread throughout the home making this job even more challenging. SERVPRO technicians use dry chemical sponges and EPA-registered disinfectants to clean any areas left over, in an attempt to recover as much as possible. However, in the kitchen area, all of the cabinets and countertops require removal as well, so that technicians can remove all drywall from the area.
